Subject: Fiji Location: Fiji, South Pacific Title: A little slice of heaven
My husband and I were looking for a perfect place to get away from the stress and drama of life. Being avid divers, we had always had Fiji on our list of places to visit, but we didn't want to go to some large tourist resort on an overcrowded island. We did lots of research and decided on a private resort on a little-inhabited island far off the beaten tourist path owned by a retired American couple. It was quite an adventure getting there (11 hour flight from LA, then a layover, then an hour flight on an 8-seater plane to another island, then an hour and a half boat ride to the resort). We were immediately rewarded for our efforts with the staff singing and playing for us on the beach. We were escorted to two comfortable chairs on the beach and given coconuts with straws and chicken appetizers with amazing dipping sauces (a hint of all the good food to come). Our accomodation was amazing! It was a totally private 2 bedroom, 1 bath house with a living room and a small infinity pool! When you book there, you are their only guests and you are treated like royalty. We were offered a massage to recover from our journey and then went to the other house for dinner. (you can also have meals served at your house inside or outside on the deck). The cuisine was incredible; dinners included filet mignon, lobster, cordon bleu, etc. with wine and special deserts. Breakfasts were everything from fritatas to ham and eggs with toast and fruit. Lunches included oriental chicken salads, and even hamburgers which we requested. There was always fresh home-baked goodies for tea and snacks in your house for other times throughout the day. Local dishes were served as well (my favorite being the roro soup). We were totally secluded in paradise, yet all of our needs were cared for. The man of the house is also a dive instructor so we came prepared to get certified as advanced open water divers. The diving was again private - with 2 divemasters and the 2 of us (quite different from the normal cattle call of 8 in a boat with 2 divemasters). We went to divesites that had never before been visited. They even named a divesite after us! There are all kinds of other activities as well - hiking, swimming, snorkeling with mantas, village visits, relaxing in hammocks, reading (they have quite a library), or simply doing nothing at all. For honeymooners, people in stressful jobs, or people whose idea of vacation is truly a place to get away from it all, this is the perfect place. The name? Koromakawa on OnoIsland. Feel free to email me with any other questions (alana@npgcable.com), otherwise just tell them Craig and Alana sent you. You will be glad you did!

Ni sa bula vinaka,
For anyone coming from a hectic lifestyle, Koro Makawa is your "Pause Button". It is most evident that these gracious hosts have enjoyed the comforts and amenities of 5-Star resorts, which is reflected throughout this extremely comfortable property. Koromakawa is a place where a watch is "excess baggage" and your only neighbors are a family of Manta Rays who have made this their permanent playground. I sincerely thank Karin & Spence and their wonderful Fijian team for the opportunity to press the pause button and remember how life should be.
